Razz Poker Review
What can we say about Razz at Absolute Poker? In the past, the site took a lot of heat for its lack of game variety, but its recent merger with Cereus has brought on a new era for the old AP site. Among Absolute’s new and improved offerings is a nice selection of Razz ring games. You’ll have the option to play a full table, heads up style, and even turbo. The cash game stakes range from microstakes of $.01/$.02 to major stakes of $300/$600. We’ve yet to see another poker room with this kind of Razz variety. The downside is that even during peak hours few players seem to be heading to the Razz tab of their lobby. As we write this, there are 17,000+ players online at Absolute Poker. The Razz share of those numbers? Three. There are almost 50 Razz ring games readily available, and you’ll be lucky to find a handful of players between all of them. Ouch.

If you want a piece of the big Razz tournament action, then at Absolute Poker you’re going to have to do it via HORSE because major Razz-specific tournaments are non-existent. The good news is that contrary to other reports Absolute Poker does offer regular Razz sit-n-gos. You can play razz poker single-table and turbo sng’s for entries as little as $.25 + $.05 all the way up to $40 + $4. While true Razz fans may be disappointed by the lack of big Razz events, the ring game and sng offerings combine to make a pretty impressive package for Razz players in need of a reliable fix.
Absolute Poker Software
We’ve been pretty unenthusiastic about Absolute Poker’s software in the past, but since merging with the Cereus Network last year, the site has seen major improvements in this department too. In fact, Cereus’ parent company spent over a year trying to design the best new gambling software package. It really shows in aspects like the lobby, which has one of the largest and most detailed game lists online and yet remains easy to navigate and never stalls. The same can be said of the actual games. The traffic isn’t really testing the true power of Absolute’s software yet, but we have a feeling it could handle a lot more. And while we heard some early complaints about the new program, we’ve never had anything but a seamless playing experience at the newly revised tables.
Speaking of tables, we think you’re going to like the new look at Absolute. It’s distinctly different but very easy on the eyes and opts out of the garish background graphics in favor of downloadable skins and customized avatars. All the major stats are represented plus a few extras like a rabbit cam and the opportunity to see folded hands.
Absolute Poker Site
Rather than overwhelming players with too much text and graphics or underwhelming them with the usual bland fonts and clinical colors, Absolute Poker goes middle of the road with their revised site. The format for every page is clear—signature colors at the top and bottom, menu to the side, text and one sharp graphic in the middle. It may be predictable, but it nevertheless gets the job done in style. The site is logically laid out and quick to navigate, so you can get the information you need and then get back to the games.

Absolute Poker Game Quality
Peak hours could bring in as many as 20,000 active players at a time, but remember that the bulk of those players are likely sitting at Hold ‘em tournaments. The Razz share of the action is pretty small, but repeat visits to their tables have shown that the crowd is slowly growing. Stats on viewed flops suggest that the skill level here is still pretty loose, which means ample opportunities for amateurs looking to improve their win ratios. If you’ve got some time to spare, then choose your preferred stakes and read a magazine while you wait for your Razz ring game to fill. If you want instant action, you’d probably be better hitting one of the sit-n-gos.
Absolute Promotions
We’ve got no complaints about the AP promotions. Their sign-up bonus of 150% for up to $500 is beyond generous, and their reload bonuses and VIP club ensure continued perks.
